Why supplements stall files, and how ISC keeps them moving
A credit supplement verifies or updates specific information on a mortgage credit report, a paid-off balance, a corrected status, a new tradeline, so underwriting can move forward. Simple in theory. In practice, it is one of the most common places a mortgage file stalls.
Here is what actually happens at most vendors: you submit the supplement request, it enters a ticket queue, and then you wait. You follow up. You wait more. Over the last 12 months, the industry's average turnaround on MeridianLink has been approximately 28 hours. That is more than a full business day, and then some, where your file sits idle while your borrower's rate lock is running down, your underwriter is waiting on a condition, and your closing date is getting closer.
Slow supplements do three things to a pipeline: they expire rate locks, which costs borrowers real money to extend. They hold up Clear to Close, which creates closing day scrambles. And they force loan officers to spend their day chasing their credit vendor instead of working new files. One supplement order that takes 24 hours instead of 2 can cascade into a missed closing.
No ticket queue. No hold music. You call your rep, they handle it, and you move on.
A note on how this works: ISC does not directly change bureau data. ISC processes supplement requests using documentation provided by the client and works through established repository and creditor verification processes. Results depend on the creditor response, repository return, and documentation provided.

Supplement types ISC handles
Balance updates
Accounts paid off or paid down since the original pull, not yet reflected in the bureau's data. Submit with documentation of the current balance and ISC works to process the update quickly.
New account or tradeline additions
Accounts opened since the original pull that are relevant to qualifying, positive tradelines that should appear in the file.
Public record updates
Satisfied judgments, released tax liens, or discharged bankruptcies that have not yet been updated on the credit report. ISC coordinates with the bureau and provides documentation support.
Collection status updates
Collections paid, settled, or otherwise resolved since the original pull, with updated status for underwriting review.
