Why simulate before you rescore
A rapid rescore costs money, and the result is not guaranteed to move the score the way you expect. Without a credit simulation first, you're guessing. ISC's simulation tools show you the projected impact before any fees are spent.
Simulation provides estimated outcomes. ISC runs what-if scenarios against your borrower's actual credit file and shows you a projected point range for each action, so you can weigh the options before committing to a rescore.
Guessing what might work
Pay off Card A? Pay off Card B? Remove the collection? You're estimating based on general credit knowledge, and a wrong guess costs rescore fees with no score benefit.
A clearer picture
ISC models available options and ranks them by potential score outcomes. You see a projected score range before you act, so you can focus on the actions that may help the borrower move closer to the target score.
Credit simulation tools ISC uses
Target Score Simulator
Finds an efficient, economical path toward a specific target score. Models all possible combinations of credit actions and ranks them by speed, cost, and point impact. Also identifies the optimal day to pull credit to reflect the most updated changes.
Money Simulator
Identifies the accounts where allocating available funds may have a stronger positive effect on the credit score. Particularly useful when a borrower has limited funds and needs to know where to direct them for the strongest potential score improvement.
Manual Score Simulator
Shows potential point gains or losses from specific manual actions, paying an account, removing a tradeline, disputing an item. Effective for understanding the projected impact of each proposed action before execution.
Mortgage Action Plan
Provides a complete, prioritized strategy to strengthen credit health, identifying critical areas and delivering a clear, actionable plan to help borrowers achieve their financial goals and pursue the loan they're working toward. The MAP includes a written, borrower-facing report that can be shared directly with the borrower to explain what actions they need to take and why.
Credit simulation tools and the new scoring models
VantageScore 4.0 is available for approved lender use in a limited rollout/interim implementation. Classic FICO remains standard for lenders that have not been approved for VantageScore 4.0 use. Availability depends on investor, GSE approval, and platform support.
- A single payoff the week before application may have less impact under trended models than it would under Classic FICO, because the model considers whether this is a pattern
- Sustained paydown behavior over multiple months carries more weight, sometimes making a partial paydown over time more effective than a single lump payoff
- Utilization trends matter, not just point-in-time utilization, a borrower trending downward scores better than one at the same utilization level but trending upward
ISC's team understands these nuances and builds simulation strategies based on the Classic FICO model your lender is using, helping you identify the items that may impact the score before spending rescore fees.
How to access credit simulation through ISC
Credit simulation is available to ISC clients as part of ISC's credit consulting service. Contact your ISC support team to discuss:
- Which simulation type is most appropriate for your borrower's situation
- The cost and turnaround for the simulation
- How simulation results integrate with a rapid rescore execution plan
- Whether a soft pull follow-up is recommended after executing the rescore actions
ISC recommends running a credit simulation on any file where you're considering a rapid rescore, before executing a single bureau action. The simulation cost is often recovered many times over in rescore fees saved on ineffective actions.
